HYMN #731 Earth and All Stars

Litany in time of Transition
God of our all time and space who brought us to this place, we praise and thank you for those graduating, beginning careers, concluding careers, and those in other seasons of transition, as we celebrate them in our worship today.
We are grateful for their presence in our worshiping community, for the ways they have contributed and received blessings, and for their unique personalities that are gifts to the body of Christ.
We pray that through relationships they have developed in this place and the marks of Christ they have shared with this community will strengthen them for their next step in life’s journey.
We pray their next steps will be wisely and thoughtfully made. We pray for their protection and safety. We pray for the wisdom of your Spirit to be revealed to them in their work, study, and rest. We pray for their joy and encouragement.
Give these friends who are in times of transition, and those in times of transition throughout the world patience and perspective and the endurance to do what it takes to accomplish their goals. We pray with thanksgiving for the bonds of relationship that connect us to one another and to you, and help us to live into the fulness of those connections amid the changes of life.
And we pray that in times of struggle, loss, frustration, and grief that they will remember their “home”— home among this community of faith, home with their loved ones, and home in your presence and love. We pray all these things in the name of the one who lived, died, was raised, and ascended to reign at God’s right hand, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

First Reading (Acts 1:6-14)
6When [the apostles] had come together, they asked [Jesus], “Lord, is this the time when you will restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7He replied, “It is not for you to know the times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority. 8But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” 9When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. 10While he was going and they were gazing up toward heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood by them. 11They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”
12Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a sabbath day’s journey away. 13When they had entered the city, they went to the room upstairs where they were staying, Peter, and John, and James, and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. 14All these were constantly devoting themselves to prayer, together with certain women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, as well as his brothers.
