Welcome

Prelude

(we stand)

Blessed be the holy Trinity, ☩ one God, who forgives all our sin, whose mercy
endures forever. Amen.

Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom
no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your
Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy
name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another….
Gracious God, have mercy on us. We confess that we have turned from you
and given ourselves into the power of sin. We are truly sorry and humbly
repent. In your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things
we have done and things we have failed to do. Turn us again to you, and
uphold us by your Spirit, so that we may live and serve you in newness of life
through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.
God, who is rich in mercy, loved us even when we were dead in sin, and made us
alive together with Christ. By grace you have been saved. In the name of ☩ Jesus
Christ, your sins are forgiven. Almighty God strengthen you with power through
the Holy Spirit, that Christ may live in your hearts through faith.

Amen.

Hymn 824 This is My Father’s World

Special Music: “I Come with Joy” (Hymn 482: All join in singing on verse 5)

First Reading: Isaiah 65:1-9
 1
I was ready to be sought out by those who did not ask, to be found by those
who did not seek me. I said, “Here I am, here I am,” to a nation that did not call
on my name. 2

I held out my hands all day long to a rebellious people, who walk in
a way that is not good, following their own devices; 3
a people who provoke me to
my face continually, sacrificing in gardens and offering incense on bricks; 4who
sit inside tombs, and spend the night in secret places; who eat swine’s flesh, with
broth of abominable things in their vessels; 5who say, “Keep to yourself, do not
come near me, for I am too holy for you.”
These are a smoke in my nostrils, a fire that burns all day long. 6See, it is
written before me: I will not keep silent, but I will repay; I will indeed repay into
their laps 7
their iniquities and their ancestors’ iniquities together, says the Lord;
because they offered incense on the mountains and reviled me on the hills, I will
measure into their laps full payment for their actions.
8Thus says the Lord: As the wine is found in the cluster, and they say, “Do not
destroy it, for there is a blessing in it,” so I will do for my servants’ sake, and not
destroy them all. 9
I will bring forth descendants from Jacob, and from Judah
inheritors of my mountains; my chosen shall inherit it, and my servants shall settle
there.

Hymn ACS HYM 1016 “Cast Out, O Christ” Tune: “House of the Rising Sun”

 (Piano Introduction)

1 Cast out, O Christ, cast far away the demons that destroy:
the haunting dreads that choke our souls, the hates that stifle joy.
 (interlude)
2 Our raging griefs, our jealous fears are Legion in their name.
Our shackled hearts implore your grace to loose our binding shame.
(interlude)
3 Once long ago, from Galilee, you sailed to storm-tossed shores.
And still, in pow'r, you brave new paths to breach our bolted doors.
(interlude)
4 Your word breathes life and health and hope that break through evil's
 thrall.
You send us, strengthened, home in peace to live your gospel call.
(interlude)
5 So come, O Christ, and cast away the demons that destroy.
Transform our lives to sense your love and spread abroad your joy.

(interlude)
